Reliable waterproof clothing can make all the difference when you are riding, working at the yard or attending a competition in wet weather. Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers were developed by riders for riders, combining waterproof protection with comfort and practical features.
Designed to be worn over jodhpurs or breeches, or on their own, they help keep riders dry without restricting movement. In this guide, we explain their key features and why they are a practical choice throughout the year.
Waterproof and Breathable Protection
Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers are made from waterproof and breathable fabric to help keep riders dry without overheating. The lightweight outer fabric incorporates a microporous membrane, together with a breathable mesh lining for comfort.
The microporous membrane allows moisture vapour to escape while resisting water from passing through the fabric. This provides practical protection during wet-weather riding and everyday work at the yard.
The fabric has been tested to EN343 + A1 for protection against foul weather, with water resistance tested up to 15,000mm and abrasion resistance up to 75,000 rubs.
A Choice of Sizes and Leg Lengths
Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers are available in a wide selection of adult sizes, with Short, Regular and Long leg lengths. Their streamlined, flexible design is suitable for both men and women and can be worn over jodhpurs or breeches, or on their own. The waistband has belt loops and an elasticated section at the back for a comfortable fit, while the lower-leg zip openings make the trousers easy to pull on and off over riding boots.
Children’s sizes are available from age 6 to 12, with toddler sizes available for ages 2 and 4. Find out more about choosing waterproofs for children here.
For Riding, Yard Work and Competitions
Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers are practical both in and out of the saddle. They help keep riders clean and dry while riding, working at the yard or preparing for a competition. They can be worn over competition clothing and removed before entering the ring.
Looking after your Dri-Rider waterproofs is straightforward. Read our guide to caring for Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers and Full Chaps here.
Recognised by Riders and the Equestrian Industry
The Dri-Rider range has received equestrian industry awards and five-star customer reviews. This recognition reflects its waterproof protection, practical design and suitability for real riding conditions. You can read Horse & Hound’s review here.

Choosing the Right Dri-Rider Waterproof Trousers
If you do not need a non-slip seat or adjustable stirrup straps, Dri-Rider Waterproof Country Trousers are a practical alternative for yard work, dog walking and watching outdoor events.
Winter riding can be enjoyable, but cold temperatures, wet weather and biting winds can quickly leave you uncomfortable. Choosing the right layers and waterproof riding wear will help you stay warm and dry without restricting your movement.
This guide explains how to layer your riding clothes, choose suitable waterproofs and protect your legs and hands so you can continue riding comfortably throughout the colder months.
Why the Right Winter Riding Kit Matters
Cold, wet conditions can make riding uncomfortable and may affect your concentration. Suitable winter riding kit helps retain body heat while protecting you from wind and rain.
Using several practical layers also allows you to adjust what you are wearing as you move between yard jobs and riding.
Choosing Waterproof Riding Wear
A waterproof outer layer can make a significant difference on cold, wet days. The right choice depends on how much coverage and insulation you need.
Dri-Rider Waterproof Full Chaps with Fleece Lining protect the full length of your legs and provide additional warmth through their microfleece lining. They are particularly useful for colder days and long periods spent outside.
Dri-Rider Waterproof Full Chaps provide the same practical leg coverage without the fleece lining, making them suitable for milder or changeable conditions.
Dri-Rider Waterproof Riding Trousers provide complete lower-body protection and can be worn over jodhpurs or breeches, or worn alone. They are available in a range of sizes and leg lengths and feature adjustable stirrup straps to help keep them securely in place.
Which Half Chaps Are Best for Winter Riding?
Half chaps add a useful extra layer over the lower leg and help protect against cold wind, mud and splashes. For additional warmth during winter, look for a close-fitting style made from a thicker, water-resistant material.
Our All Purpose Half Chaps are made from neoprene, providing flexibility, a close fit and useful insulation for everyday winter riding.
How to Layer for Winter Horse Riding
Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, such as our GCF Base Layer, to help move moisture away from your skin.
Add a warm mid-layer, such as a fleece or wool top, that does not restrict your movement.
Choose a waterproof outer layer from the Dri-Rider range to protect against rain and wind.
Finish with warm riding gloves that provide sufficient grip for holding the reins and completing yard jobs.
The answer depends on the competition rules and the type of half chaps or gaiters you intend to wear. Smart leather gaiters or half chaps worn with matching short riding boots may be accepted, while everyday suede or fringed half chaps are generally not suitable for affiliated dressage. Always check the current rules and the individual competition schedule before you enter.
What Do the British Dressage Rules Say?
British Dressage allows riders to compete in long or short riding boots, with gaiters optional. If you choose to wear gaiters or half chaps, a smart leather or leather-look pair that matches your short riding boots is the most appropriate choice. Suede or fringed styles may not be accepted. Always check the current British Dressage Members’ Handbook and the individual competition schedule before competing.
Why Choose Gaiters or Half Chaps?
Wearing smart gaiters or half chaps with short riding boots can be a comfortable and practical alternative to long boots. They offer greater flexibility around the ankle and are particularly useful for riders who find it difficult to achieve the right calf fit in standard long boots.
Our Saltos Leather Gaiters are designed to create the smart appearance of long riding boots when worn with suitable short riding boots. Made from smooth leather, they provide a close-contact feel and are available in a range of sizes, including wider-fit options.
Find Your Perfect Fit
Correct fit is important for both comfort and a smart appearance. Measure around the widest part of your calf and use your height to help select the most suitable length. Our Half Chaps and Gaiters Sizing Guide explains the process and will help you choose the right size.
Check Before You Compete
Smart leather gaiters or half chaps can provide a comfortable and practical alternative to long riding boots, but competition rules can vary. Always check the current rules for your governing body and the individual event schedule before competing.
Our All Purpose Horse Riding Gloves received 9/10 from Horse & Hound. Designed for everyday riding and jobs around the yard, they combine warmth, comfort and grip without feeling bulky. Here’s what makes them a practical choice for chilly days.
Designed for Everyday Riders
When developing these gloves, we focused on what riders need: warmth and comfort without unnecessary bulk, reliable grip and a practical design that is easy to care for.
Working closely with our specialist manufacturer allowed us to turn these requirements into an everyday glove suitable for both riding and jobs around the yard. As a result, you can keep the same pair on when moving between grooming, tacking up and riding.
Tested by Horse & Hound
Horse & Hound included our gloves in an independent group test carried out by professional dressage rider Keith Robertson and his team at Wild Farm Equestrian.
Keith awarded them 9/10 and praised their comfort and warmth during both riding and yard work. He also found that they stood up well to regular use.
Made from softshell fabric and lined with Thinsulate, these gloves provide warmth while allowing your fingers to move comfortably. Grippy palm and finger patches help when holding the reins or handling yard equipment.
They are water-resistant and washable, making them practical for regular use. However, water resistance is different from waterproof protection, so consider the conditions you usually ride in when choosing your gloves.
For a comfortable fit, measure around your knuckles and check the size guide before ordering. Your gloves should feel snug without restricting movement or leaving too much spare material at the fingertips.
Riding gaiters fit closely around the lower leg and are designed to be worn with short riding or jodhpur boots. They offer the smart appearance of long riding boots while retaining the flexibility and convenience of separate boots and gaiters.
A well-fitting pair can help reduce rubbing from the stirrup leathers, provide support around the lower leg and create a neat, streamlined look. This guide explains what riding gaiters are, how they differ from half chaps, how they should fit and how to choose the right size.
What are riding gaiters?
Riding gaiters cover the lower leg from the ankle to just below the knee. They are worn over riding breeches, jodhpurs or riding tights and paired with short riding boots. Unlike protective gaiters used for walking or outdoor work, equestrian riding gaiters are shaped specifically for use in the saddle.
Leather riding gaiters tend to have a structured, formal shape designed to resemble the leg of a long riding boot. Just Chaps Saltos Leather Riding Gaiters have a rear zip, a shaped calf, a slim ankle and an elegant Spanish-cut topline.
What are the benefits of wearing riding gaiters?
Riding gaiters combine a smart appearance with everyday practicality. They can:
help reduce rubbing and pinching from the stirrup leathers against the lower leg;
provide a close, supportive feeling around the calf and ankle;
give the appearance of long riding boots when worn with suitable short riding boots;
offer the flexibility and convenience of separate boots and gaiters;
be easier to fit than some long boots, particularly when different calf widths and heights are available;
be suitable for everyday riding, schooling, hacking and competitions.
What is the difference between riding gaiters and half chaps?
Both riding gaiters and half chaps cover the lower leg and are worn with short riding boots. The main difference is usually their shape and intended appearance.
Riding gaiters tend to be more structured and formal, with a close-fitting ankle and shaped topline that create the appearance of a long riding boot. The Just Chaps Saltos gaiters fasten with a zip at the back of the leg. Half chaps generally have a less formal appearance and are available in a wider variety of practical materials and styles.
Riding gaiters can be worn by adult and young riders, from beginners and leisure riders to experienced competitors. They are useful for everyday riding, lessons, Pony Club activities, schooling, hacking and competitions.
Riding gaiters should feel close and supportive without being painfully tight. They should follow the shape of the lower leg, sit neatly below the back of the knee and fit closely around the ankle without large gaps or excessive wrinkling.
The zip should close securely without being forced, and the gaiter should not twist or slip down during wear. New leather gaiters may initially feel snug, as natural leather will soften and give with wear. The breathable faux suede lining in Saltos gaiters helps them retain their shape while remaining comfortable.
Just Chaps sizing uses two key pieces of information: the rider’s approximate height and the calf measurement. Together, these help identify the correct height and width combination.
Use the rider’s approximate height to identify the most likely height category.
Wearing the breeches, jodhpurs or riding tights normally used for riding, measure around the widest part of the calf.
Keep the tape measure level and comfortably close to the leg without pulling it tight.
Compare both measurements with the Just Chaps Sizing Guide.
Use the Just Chaps Sizing Guide to find the most suitable combination. If you are between sizes or unsure, contact us for personal fitting advice before ordering.
If you need additional calf room, our Saltos Gaiter Extension Panel works with compatible Saltos Leather Riding Gaiters. Choose the panel that matches your gaiter height and check the compatible sizes on the product page.
The Just Chaps Saltos range is made from premium full-grain leather with a soft, natural finish. It is designed to combine a smart, close fit with the flexibility needed for everyday riding.
Key features include:
premium full-grain leather;
a breathable faux suede lining to help maintain shape and provide lasting comfort;
an elegant Spanish-cut topline;
a slim ankle and shaped calf for a close fit;
elastic stretch panels for flexibility;
a durable locking YKK zip with a secure popper fastening; and
adult and children’s sizes in black and brown.
Saltos Leather Riding Gaiters were awarded Best Value by Horse & Rider magazine.
Adult and children’s riding gaiters
The Saltos range includes both adult and children’s gaiters. Adult sizes offer a choice of heights and calf widths, helping riders with slimmer or wider calves find a close, comfortable fit. Children’s sizes are designed for young riders taking part in lessons, everyday riding, Pony Club activities and competitions.
Children’s gaiters should fit closely and comfortably, but there should still be room for movement and growth. Always check the Just Chaps Sizing Guide.
Remove surface dirt with a damp cloth and use suitable leather-care products to keep the leather supple and looking its best. Keep the zip running smoothly by removing any trapped dirt or fabric before fastening.
Riding gaiters are designed to be worn with short riding or jodhpur boots in a matching colour. Choose boots that work comfortably with the gaiters and create a neat fit around the ankle.
Can I wear riding gaiters for competitions?
Yes, where permitted by the rules for your discipline and competition. Always check the current requirements before competing.
Can children wear riding gaiters?
Yes. Children’s riding gaiters are available in sizes designed for younger riders. A comfortable, close fit is important, but there should still be room for movement and growth.
Do leather gaiters stretch?
Natural leather will soften and give with wear, while the elastic panels provide additional flexibility. The gaiters should feel snug when new, but the zip should still close securely without being forced.
Can I use an extension panel in only one gaiter?
Yes. An extension panel can be used in one or both gaiters, depending on the fit required. Make sure the panel length is compatible with the gaiter size.
Find your perfect fit
Just Chaps has specialised in riding chaps and gaiters since 2003. The Saltos range combines premium full-grain leather, carefully shaped designs and a wide choice of sizes for adult and young riders.
Riding half chaps are a practical alternative to long riding boots. Worn with short riding or jodhpur boots, they cover the lower leg from the ankle to just below the knee. A well-fitting pair helps protect the leg from rubbing and pinching, adds grip and support, and creates a smart, streamlined look.
Whether you are a beginner, an experienced rider, buying for a child or simply looking for a more comfortable option than long boots, the right half chaps can make a real difference. This guide explains what to look for, how to find the correct fit and how to choose between the different materials and styles available.
What are riding half chaps?
Half chaps are close-fitting lower-leg coverings worn over riding breeches, jodhpurs or riding tights. They are designed to be worn with short riding boots and usually fasten with a zip, with an elasticated panel or stretch material helping them fit comfortably around the calf.
Unlike full chaps, which cover most or all of the leg, half chaps cover only the lower leg. Riding gaiters also cover the lower leg, but they tend to have a more structured, formal shape designed to create the appearance of long riding boots when worn with matching short boots. We cover gaiters separately in our Riding Gaiters guide. For a quick comparison, read our Half Chaps vs Riding Gaiters guide.
Half chaps are suitable for beginners, leisure riders, riding schools, children and experienced riders. They are particularly useful for everyday riding, hacking, schooling, riding holidays and long hours in the saddle, including endurance riding. Our article about Just Chaps’ connection with Scottish endurance riding explains why comfortable, lightweight half chaps are well suited to longer distances.
Half chaps can be worn at competitions when worn with the correct boots. However, competition rules may vary between disciplines and organisers, so always check the current rules before competing.
Half chaps should feel close and supportive without being painfully tight. They should sit neatly from just below the back of the knee to the ankle, without large gaps, excessive wrinkling or pressure behind the knee.
A new pair may initially feel snug, particularly if it is made from leather or suede, as these natural materials will soften and give with wear. The zip should close securely without forcing it, and the chap should not twist or slip down during wear.
Just Chaps sizing uses two key pieces of information: the rider’s approximate height and the calf measurement. Together, these help identify the correct height and width combination.
Use the rider’s approximate height to identify the most suitable height fitting in your chosen style.
Wearing the breeches, jodhpurs or riding tights normally used for riding, measure around the widest part of the calf.
Keep the tape measure level and comfortably close to the leg without pulling it tight.
Compare both measurements with the sizing guide for the particular half chap style.
If you are between sizes or unsure which combination will work best, contact Just Chaps for fitting advice before ordering.
Just Chaps offers wider calf fittings across the half chaps range. Start by checking the sizes available in your preferred style. For help comparing materials and fits, read our guide to half chaps and riding gaiters for wider calves.
If you need additional calf room, our Riding Half Chaps Zip Extension Panel works with All Purpose Riding Half Chaps, Cool Riding Half Chaps and Classic Suede Riding Half Chaps. Choose the panel that matches the height of your half chaps and check compatibility on the product page. This panel does not fit Saltos Leather Half Chaps.
The best material depends on where, when and how often you ride, as well as the look you prefer.
Leather half chaps
Leather gives a smart, close-fitting appearance and tends to mould to the leg with wear. It is a popular choice for riders who want the look of long boots with the convenience of separate short boots and half chaps. Leather needs appropriate care to keep it supple and looking its best.
Suede is a traditional half-chap material. It offers good grip and comfort and is well suited to everyday riding. It has a softer, more relaxed appearance than smooth leather and should be cleaned with products suitable for suede.
Neoprene and other stretch materials are practical, flexible and easy to look after. They are a good choice for riding schools, everyday riders, growing children and anyone who prioritises comfort and durability.
Lightweight or perforated materials can be more comfortable in warm weather. They are particularly useful for summer riding, riding holidays and destinations where keeping cool is a priority.

Half chaps for adults, children and toddlers
A good fit should not be limited to one standard calf shape. The Just Chaps range includes adult half chaps, plus children’s and toddler half chaps, with different heights and calf widths available across the collection. This makes it easier to find a comfortable combination for shorter, taller, slimmer and wider calves.
Not every style uses the same sizing system, so always check the individual product’s size guide.
Half chaps are not compulsory for learning to ride, but many beginners find them more comfortable than riding in short boots alone. They help protect the lower leg and can provide extra grip and support.
Can children wear half chaps?
Yes. Children’s and toddler half chaps are available in sizes designed for younger riders. A comfortable, close fit is important, but there should still be room for movement and growth.
Can I wear half chaps for competitions?
Yes, where permitted by the rules for your discipline and competition. Always check the current requirements before competing.
Are half chaps better than long riding boots?
Neither option is automatically better. Half chaps with short boots offer flexibility, easier fitting and everyday practicality. Long boots provide a single, more formal boot. The best choice depends on comfort, fit, budget and the type of riding you do.

Just Chaps has specialised in riding half chaps since 2003, with a wide choice of materials, styles, heights and calf widths for riders of different ages and shapes. Explore the full Half Chaps collection and use our Sizing Guide to find your best fit.
Wet weather can make riding, mucking out, teaching lessons and yard work uncomfortable. However, the right waterproof riding wear makes a real difference. Waterproof riding trousers and full chaps are designed specifically for equestrian use. They help keep you dry and comfortable in all weathers.
This guide explains the different types of waterproof riding wear and the benefits of each. It explains how to choose the right option and which features to look for. It also compares waterproof riding trousers with full chaps.
You’ll also find sizing advice and answers to common questions.
Just Chaps has over 20 years of experience helping riders stay comfortable in wet weather. Our award-winning Dri-Rider range includes everyday riding waterproofs, winter protection and waterproofs for children.
What is Waterproof Riding Wear?
Waterproof riding wear keeps riders dry and comfortable while riding or working around the yard. Manufacturers design equestrian waterproofs specifically for riding, hacking and yard work. This makes them more practical than ordinary waterproof clothing.
For example, waterproof riding wear comes in several styles, including riding trousers and full chaps. Riders can wear some options over breeches or jodhpurs, while others also work as everyday waterproof trousers. The range includes sizes for adults, children and toddlers, helping riders of all ages stay protected from the weather.
Overall, modern riding waterproofs are lightweight and breathable. Riders can wear them throughout the year to stay dry and comfortable in changing weather.
Why Do Riders Need Waterproof Riding Wear?
Anyone who spends time with horses knows the weather does not always cooperate. Staying dry makes riding, teaching, mucking out and turning horses in and out far more enjoyable.
Good waterproof riding wear protects your clothing from rain, mud and splashes. It also allows you to move freely while riding or working around the yard. By blocking wind and rain, it helps you stay warmer and makes long days outdoors more comfortable.
Reliable waterproofs allow riders to continue riding and caring for their horses in wet weather. They can enjoy the whole day instead of cutting it short when the rain arrives.
Waterproof Riding Trousers or Waterproof Full Chaps?
One of the most common questions riders ask is whether they should choose waterproof riding trousers or waterproof full chaps. The right choice depends on how and where you’ll be using them. For a more detailed comparison, read Waterproof Riding Trousers or Full Chaps: Which Are Right for You?
Waterproof riding trousers offer all-over protection from the rain. Riders can wear them over jodhpurs, breeches or everyday trousers, or on their own. This makes them practical for riding, yard work and other outdoor activities.
Waterproof full chaps protect the full length of each leg from the rain. Riders can put them on quickly and remove them easily, even while in the saddle. This makes them ideal for changeable weather.
In addition, fleece-lined waterproof full chaps provide extra warmth and protection from the rain. They suit riders who spend long hours outdoors or continue riding throughout the winter.

Every product is designed to perform in the demanding conditions riders experience, whether you’re riding, working around the yard or enjoying the countryside.
Unlike many waterproof garments, Dri-Rider products use a waterproof and breathable fabric. This helps prevent rain from getting in whilst allowing moisture from the body to escape, keeping you more comfortable during active use.

Another benefit of the Dri-Rider range is that it is easy to care for. The waterproof fabric does not require reproofing, so your waterproofs can simply be machine washed following the care instructions, making them practical for regular use throughout the year.

Choosing the right horse riding gloves can make a real difference to your comfort and grip on the reins.
With so many different types available, it isn’t always obvious which gloves will suit you best.
In this guide, we’ll explain what to look for when choosing riding gloves, how they should fit and the differences between summer, winter, waterproof and competition riding gloves.
Why wear horse riding gloves?
Riding gloves aren’t simply about keeping your hands warm.
A good pair of riding gloves can help you maintain a secure grip on the reins and protect your hands from rubbing and chafing. They can also make riding much more comfortable in cold, wet or hot weather.
The important thing is choosing gloves that suit both the conditions and the type of riding you do.
What should you look for in horse riding gloves?
When choosing riding gloves, there are a few things worth considering: fit, grip, flexibility and the weather conditions you’ll be riding in.
A good riding glove should fit closely without restricting the movement of your hands. It should give you a secure feel on the reins without being bulky, and be suitable for the conditions in which you intend to use it.
Fit
Riding gloves should fit closely without feeling tight.
Too much excess material can make the reins feel bulky in your hands, while gloves that are too tight can restrict movement and become uncomfortable.
You should be able to bend your fingers freely and close your hand comfortably around the reins.
Grip
Good grip is particularly important when you’re riding, as you need to be able to hold the reins securely without gripping more tightly than necessary.
Look for riding gloves with non-slip material or reinforcement across the palms and fingers, particularly in the areas that are in contact with the reins.
Feel and flexibility
Your riding gloves should allow you to move your hands and fingers naturally and maintain a good feel on the reins.
Very thick or bulky gloves can make this more difficult, so when choosing warmer gloves, look for a pair that provides insulation without adding unnecessary bulk.
Weather conditions
Think about when you are most likely to wear your gloves.
Lightweight, breathable gloves are more comfortable in warmer weather, while colder conditions may call for insulated gloves. If you regularly ride in prolonged rain, look specifically for waterproof gloves rather than assuming that water-resistant gloves will provide the same protection.
For many riders, having different gloves for summer and winter is more practical than expecting one pair to work well throughout the year.
Which horse riding gloves are right for you?
The best riding gloves for you will depend on when and where you ride, as well as what you need most from your gloves.
For everyday riding you may want a versatile, hard-wearing pair, while summer, winter and wet weather can all call for something more specific.
Let’s look at the different options and when each is most useful.
Everyday riding and yard work
For everyday riding and jobs around the yard, look for a comfortable, hard-wearing glove with good grip and enough flexibility to use your hands easily.
Our All Purpose Horse Riding Gloves are made from stretch softshell with a Thinsulate lining to provide warmth without too much bulk. They also have grippy palm and finger patches to help provide a secure hold on the reins.
In warmer weather, lightweight and breathable gloves can help keep your hands comfortable while still providing the grip and protection you need when riding.
Our Summer Weight Horse Riding Gloves have a lightweight stretch-mesh upper to allow air to circulate, with faux leather palms and reinforced fingers for grip.
They are designed for warmer-weather riding and are also a useful option for competitions and riding holidays. They are also touchscreen compatible.
Winter riding gloves
Cold hands can make riding uncomfortable, but very thick gloves can make it harder to maintain a good feel on the reins.
Our Winter Horse Riding Gloves have a Thinsulate lining to provide warmth without too much bulk, together with non-slip palms and fingers for grip. The longer elasticated cuff helps keep out draughts, while the Hi-Viz panels provide extra visibility when riding on the road.
They are water-resistant rather than waterproof, so for prolonged wet weather a fully waterproof glove would be the better choice.
Waterproof riding gloves
If you regularly ride or work on the yard in cold, wet weather, a fully waterproof glove can make a real difference to your comfort.
Our Waterproof Horse Riding Gloves have a microporous waterproof membrane together with a Thinsulate lining for warmth. They also have non-slip palms and fingers for grip and a longer cuff to help keep out draughts.
Unlike our All Purpose and Winter gloves, these are fully waterproof, making them the better choice for prolonged wet weather.
Competition riding gloves
For competition, many riders prefer a smart, close-fitting glove that still provides good grip and feel on the reins.
Our Competition Horse Riding Gloves are made from lightweight faux leather and have reinforced palms and fingers to provide grip, including in wet conditions. They are designed to give a close, comfortable fit without unnecessary bulk.
They are also touchscreen compatible, which can be particularly handy on competition days.
How should horse riding gloves fit?
Riding gloves should feel snug without being restrictive. There shouldn’t be too much spare material at the ends of the fingers, and you should be able to move and bend your fingers comfortably.
Most importantly, think about how the gloves feel when your hands are in a riding position. A well-fitting glove should allow you to hold the reins naturally without bunching, pulling or restricting your movement.
How do you measure your hand for riding gloves?
To find your Just Chaps glove size, measure around the widest part of your hand, across the knuckles, using a tape measure.
Keep the tape comfortably snug rather than pulling it tightly.
Sizing varies slightly between our different glove styles, so always check the size guide on the individual product page before ordering rather than assuming you will need the same size in every style.
Can you wash horse riding gloves?
This depends on the material, so always check the care instructions for your particular gloves.
All of the Just Chaps riding gloves featured in this guide are washable. Our waterproof gloves need a little extra care because of their waterproof membrane. They can be washed at 40°C using non-bio detergent, but fabric softener should not be used as it can clog the membrane.
Always allow your gloves to dry away from direct heat.
Do you need more than one pair of riding gloves?
Not necessarily, but if you ride throughout the year, having more than one pair can be practical.
A lightweight, breathable glove will be more comfortable in hot weather, while insulated or waterproof gloves are better suited to winter conditions.
Rather than looking for one pair of gloves to do everything, think about the conditions you ride in most often and choose accordingly.
Choosing the right horse riding gloves
There isn’t one pair of riding gloves that will suit every rider and every situation.
The key is to choose gloves that fit well, feel comfortable on the reins and are suitable for the conditions in which you ride.
