How to measure correctly for women’s Half Chaps

Choosing the right size for half chaps or gaiters is critical. Too tight and you will be uncomfortable. Too loose and they will twist.

We advise as snug a fit as possible so that the Half Chaps offer “support” to the lower leg and do not move while you’re riding. Here a few sizing tips:

1. Saltos Half Chaps are made from unlined leather and will give a little
2. Saltos Gaiters are lined and will not give like the unlined Saltos Half Chaps, however, they will mould and soften
3. Cool Half Chaps have a stretch panel but the actual fabric will not give
4. All Purpose neoprene offer most stretch

How to care for your Half Chaps and Gaiters

• Saltos Leather: remove dirt and dander with a damp sponge with a little cleaning product. Add leather feed once dry. Dry away from direct heat.
• Cool Half Chaps: fasten zip and popper and wash in the machine at 30 degrees. Dry away from heat.
• All Purpose: can be washed in the machine as per the Cool Half Chaps.

The Just Chaps journey began in 2003 with only a few sizes of half chaps being manufactured. Before long it was clear that customers needed a wider range of products and an even wider range of sizes, with specific sizes for wider calves.

How did Just Chaps develop a range of Half Chaps for wider calves that fit and look great and are  affordable at the same time? Let’s look at the range of wider half chaps and find the perfect pair for you. 

Designs for All Calf Widths

The design of half chaps – and by that we mean the cut and shape – is essential. The shape needs to cope with a full ratio of sizes that actually fit the leg. That’s the important bit…. a shape that actually fits the lower leg of as many riders as possible. Once we had perfected the design it was time to experiment with different textiles. Let’s look at those that work best for Half Chaps with wider calves. 

Neoprene : perfect for larger calves.

 Our first design – the All Purpose –  is made from neoprene. This is a wonderful textile and perfect for the job in hanf. It keeps its shape, is stretchy and washable. Our All Purpose design was developed to include wider sizes from Short Wide up to Medium Extra Wide which will stretch to fit a calf 50+cm.  We rarely disappoint riders with our selecction of chaps for wider calves.
